In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes declarations beginning with the phrase 'I am....'. This signifies His deity, since the phrase recalls the story of Moses. When Moses asked God who he should say had sent him, God revealed himself as, 'I am who I am' (Exodus 3 v 14)
