Words, Words, Words

Words are funny things, you take a word and you say it so much it doesn't even sound like a word any more, you ever done that? Try in with orange, say it over and over again and it doesn't even seem like the work orange. And then you have words like Jumper which don't even match what they are talking about.

I have always had an interest in words, reading them, writing them, talking them.... they are a wonderful invention. There are the simple words, but then there are the great words which are hardly ever said, and just thought I would share some of my new words with you - you can use them to impress your mates!!

  • Habromania - delusions of happiness
  • Scintilla - a tiny, brilliant flash or spark, a small thing, a barely visible trace
  • Hoppipolla  - jumping into puddles

Hoppipolla is one of my new favourite words as it sounds like its definition- hopping, Its like the word paraaguas in Spanish... para meaning for and aqua meaning water... so the word paraaguas means for water..... and translated into English is umbrella.

Paragauas - a word which does what it says on the tin!!

  • Oriflamme - a symbol or standard that inspires confidence, devotion or courage
  • Sirimiri - a light rain or fire drizzle
  • Eunoia  - beautiful thinking, a well mind
  • Latibule - a hiding place, a place of safety and comfort.

Now try using those words in a sentence. Learning new words is always a good thing.
