Book Review: The Perfect Daughter by Amanda Prowse

I read ‘Poppy Day’ by Amanda Prowse and loved it, so on reading ‘The Perfect Daughter’ I was expecting great things, but unfortunately, I found it a struggle to read.

‘The Perfect Daughter’ tells the story of Jackie and her family and the struggles they have of nursing a mother with Alzheimer’s, living in a cramped house and money problems.

The story covers two timelines –the present day and when Jackie was 17 and at school and in love with  Sven, the perfect boy which did not end the way she envisaged and left her in a place where she knew her dreams would not come true.  In the present day, Jackie is now married to Pete but still daydreams about Sven and what may have been – which ends up straining family relationships.

The main themes in this book are family, love, money, heartache, trust, and friendship. Overall, though I struggled to read the book – it is a good read but it isn’t Prowse at her best.
