Book Review: I Hear the Sirens in the Street by Adrian McKinty

I Hear the Sirens in the Street is number two in the Detective Sean Duffy series which is set in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland in 1982 during the ‘troubles’ – which makes for an interesting setting and brings character to the story.

Soon after returning to duty after nearly dying during his last case, DI Duffy finds a torso in a suitcase and he pulls out all stops in the investigation to find out who the torso belongs to and who the one who had committed this crime is.

When no leads are coming up for Duffy and his fellow police officers, they are told to put the case on the back burner, but in typical Duffy style, he cannot let the case go and continues to investigate which gets him in more trouble as it is not just the police who are interested in the case – and the other side is not a bunch you want to mess with!

Sean’s tenacity and his investigation leads him to Boston where he ends up in another precarious position. Again McKinty gives us plenty of action and gritty characters and is a very good read. One you don’t want to put down. I am looking forward to reading the next Sean Duffy installment as not only do you get a good story but you also learn things about the history of the 1980’s in Northern Ireland.
